Baby Tip #1: Burp Often
July 23, 2009
The best way to feed an infant under six months is to feed them a little bit, then burp them, then continue feeding. A lot of parents make the mistake of thinking that their kid is full when they are actually just gassy.
When you lift them up to burp them get both of their arms over your shoulder and pat them just above the diaper line so that you are targeting their stomach. They will struggle for a minute until all the gas bubbles are out and then will settle down for a few minutes before making additional hunger cries. After they are completely done eating don’t forget to keep them on your shoulder or on a steep angle for about ten minutes to really help them digest the food and eliminate any little bubbles remaining.
Burping them every five minutes or so will clear up some room for them to really get their fill. Which means the baby will be truly satiated, sleep longer between meals, and will be considerably less collicky if at all. And you’ll be happier knowing your baby is well and will be able to catch those necessary z’s yourself.
Senia Comes Home
July 21, 2009
Senia Visa Nair (i.e. Visionaire!) was born on a beautiful morning on the 15th of July 2009 at Lenox Hill Hospital on Park Avenue in New York City. Weighing in at 6 lbs 9.4 oz and a healthy 19 inches long, she arrived without incident. Both baby and mamma are healthy and dad is napping when possible.
Sahana couldn’t be more thrilled to have a new baby sister. Every time she sees the little one she smothers her with kisses and affection.
And now, about that name. The original announcement had the baby pegged as Sajini. But after the happy announcement to the family we were met with diverted eyes and subtle hints like “Say hi to the new baby named baby” instead of “Say hi to Sajini”. So, in a last minute decision, we switched it back to the name we had originally intended, Senia.
In Greek, Senia means welcoming, in Arabic, little bird, and in India it is a famous style of sitar playing that was developed by Miyan Tansen for the court of Akbar in the late 16th century. Whether she will be musically inclined is yet to be determined, but she definitely is a little bird and we are certain that she will be as welcoming as the larger families of the Dhital’s and Nair’s that she is a part of.
